An Indian couple in Canada was harassed by a group of youths in the parking lot of Lansdowne Place Mall in Peterborough on July 29, in what has been described as a racially motivated attack.
The footage shows three young men in a pickup truck blocking the couple's vehicle while hurling profanities, racial slurs, and obscene insults.
They could be heard shouting abuse, calling the man “big nose" and “you f***ing immigrant." One of them even threatened violence, saying, “Do you want me to get out of the car and f***ing kill you?"
“Hey big nose, you know it’s not illegal to go in front of your vehicle and h*** you. Did I touch you? Did I touch you, yes or no? Answer my question, you f***ing Indian," one of the men was heard saying.

The video quickly went viral, sparking widespread condemnation and demands for justice. “My partner and I are still traumatised and I am posting so that it does not happen to someone else, and we want justice," the victim wrote online.
Following an investigation, Peterborough police arrested an 18-year-old from Kawartha Lakes and charged him with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on September 16.
While Canadian law does not have a specific charge labeled as a hate crime for this incident, police confirmed that "there is a hate crime element" that will be addressed during court proceedings.
Peterborough Police stated they began investigating on August 8 after reviewing viral videos containing “hate-based language."

“Anybody who has seen the video in this case will understand that that type of behaviour is not acceptable in our community, nor any community,” Police Chief Stuart Betts said.
"Clearly, this is not the standard of acceptable behaviour in our city. We encourage residents to continue to report hate bias incidents or crimes. Reporting these incidents to the police is crucial to ensuring we have the information needed to investigate and pursue charges when appropriate," Betts further said.
