Tinder is testing a new AI-powered feature called Chemistry, which promises to make online dating smarter and more meaningful. The feature is designed to understand users on a deeper level and help them find better matches, reducing what the company calls “swipe fatigue.”
Announced by Match Group CEO Spencer Rascoff during an earnings call, Chemistry uses artificial intelligence to get to know users through interactive, conversational prompts. With permission, it can also look at photos from their camera roll to learn more about their interests and personality. Tinder says this information will help the AI suggest a few highly compatible profiles each day instead of making users scroll endlessly through potential matches.
According to the company, Chemistry is part of Tinder’s upcoming 2026 product experience and is currently being tested in Australia and New Zealand. The company plans to roll it out to more countries in the coming months, although it has not said when it will reach the United States.
Tinder insists that the feature is completely optional and that users will have full control over whether they allow access to their camera roll. The goal is to create more authentic and engaging connections by using AI to interpret not just written answers but also lifestyle cues from photos.
A Tinder spokesperson told Gizmodo that Chemistry uses deep learning to surface more relevant profiles and encourage better conversations. The company hopes this approach will help make dating online feel less like a chore and more like a real experience.
In addition to Chemistry, Tinder is testing other updates such as a new Modes navigation system. This includes College Mode, which helps users meet others within their college community, and Double Date Mode, which allows pairs of friends to match with other pairs. Double Date has already gained popularity in Europe, especially among Gen Z users.
Tinder has also worked on improving the app’s performance, claiming that Android startup times are now 38 percent faster and crash rates have dropped by 32 percent. The iOS app, the company says, has also become more stable after recent updates.
