Samsung has announced a major update for its Wallet app in India, adding support for UPI onboarding during Galaxy device setup, UPI Lite integration, and biometric authentication for PIN-free payments. The company says the update simplifies how users set up and use digital payments on Galaxy smartphones.
Simplified UPI onboarding
The new Samsung Wallet update integrates Unified Payments Interface (UPI) onboarding directly into the initial Galaxy device setup. Users can now link their bank account and activate UPI while setting up a new phone — removing the need to install separate payment apps. Samsung says this experience has been developed in collaboration with NPCI and partner banks to streamline digital payments for new users.
UPI Lite and biometric payments
Samsung has also introduced UPI Lite support, allowing small transactions to be processed instantly without requiring a UPI PIN or internet connectivity. Alongside this, biometric authentication using fingerprint or facial recognition can now be used for low-value transactions. The feature is designed to reduce friction in routine payments while maintaining on-device security standards.
Tap & Pay and card expansion
In addition to UPI improvements, the Wallet app now extends its Tap & Pay functionality to include support for international and forex cards. The update expands the app’s compatibility with online and offline payments, allowing users to make contactless payments using debit, credit, and travel cards through supported terminals.
Availability
Samsung says the new Wallet features will begin rolling out to eligible Galaxy devices in India starting November 2025. The biometric payment feature will gradually expand to more users in December 2025, depending on device model and bank participation. Users can check for the update through the Galaxy Store or Settings menu.
