PayPal and Venmo users now have a chance to get early access to Perplexity’s new AI-powered web browser, Comet, along with a free year of the company’s premium service, Perplexity Pro. The offer was announced on Wednesday and allows U.S. customers to bypass the usual waitlist for Comet, which initially launched in July for $200-per-month Max subscribers and a limited group of invitees.
Comet integrates an AI assistant that generates summaries of search results, provides product comparisons, and offers other AI-driven browsing features. While co-marketing partnerships are common, this collaboration is notable because PayPal’s massive user base can give Comet immediate exposure to millions of potential users in the U.S., with international rollout planned later this month.
The initiative is part of an expanded partnership between PayPal and Perplexity. Earlier this summer, the companies teamed up to enable “agentic commerce” on Perplexity’s platform, allowing users to check out instantly via PayPal or Venmo when the AI recommended products, booked travel, or sold tickets.
For PayPal, the promotion helps drive engagement with its apps by offering a Comet invite and free subscription, while also highlighting a new subscriptions hub. This hub provides a single location for users to view and manage all recurring payments. PayPal is also running a related promotion, offering $50 to customers who link and pay for at least three subscriptions through its service.
For Perplexity, the deal increases visibility for Comet at a time when AI agents are competing for attention and AI-powered browsers aim to challenge established players like Chrome. The promotion also encourages users to try Perplexity Pro, with the potential for many to continue subscriptions beyond the free year.
To claim the offer, users can access it directly through the PayPal or Venmo apps. Each account is limited to one invite, and existing Perplexity Pro subscribers are not eligible.
“Our partnership with Perplexity gives PayPal and Venmo customers early access to one of the most anticipated AI browsers and dynamic subscriptions,” said Diego Scotti, general manager of PayPal’s Consumer Group. “It’s exciting to deliver offers and tools that our customers request most, meeting their needs and helping them navigate their financial lives with greater simplicity, added convenience, and even more rewards.”
The offer is valid through the end of 2025 and will expand to international customers later in the month. After signing up for Perplexity Pro, users receive instructions to download and install the Comet browser immediately. The subscriptions hub is now available to all U.S. users following a prior ramp-up period.
