Apple’s next major MacBook Pro overhaul may not reach all models at once. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company’s first OLED-equipped MacBook Pro is slated to debut between late 2026 and early 2027 but the redesign will reportedly be exclusive to the high-end M6 Pro and M6 Max versions.
The redesign would mark Apple’s first major MacBook Pro refresh since 2021. The new models are expected to feature OLED panels with touch input, a thinner chassis, and potentially integrated 5G support. Gurman also noted Apple may replace the current notch with a Dynamic Island–style cutout, unifying the design language across Mac and iPhone product lines.
Currently, Apple sells three MacBook Pro configurations, a base 14-inch model powered by the M5 chip, higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch versions with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips. The main differences beyond chip performance lie in cooling and price: the entry-level model uses a single fan and costs roughly $400 less than the Pro variant. Gurman’s report suggests Apple intends to continue this split, keeping the base model on its existing design for at least another cycle.
Apple is expected to roll out incremental updates through 2026. Early in the year, the company will likely refresh its MacBook Pro range with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, alongside a new M5 MacBook Air. By mid-year, updated Mac mini and Mac Studio models with M5 and M5 Ultra processors are anticipated. The redesigned OLED MacBook Pro, powered by the next-generation M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, will arrive toward the end of 2026 or early 2027.
Gurman described most of Apple’s upcoming Macs as “evolutionary, not revolutionary,” with the OLED MacBook Pro standing out as one of the few exceptions. The move to OLED will deliver deeper blacks, higher contrast, and improved battery efficiency compared to the existing miniLED displays, bringing MacBooks in line with the iPhone’s display technology.
For users hoping for a complete redesign across the entire MacBook Pro lineup, that change will have to wait. Gurman’s report indicates Apple plans to extend the current design language of the entry-level MacBook Pro for at least one more year before phasing it out.
