An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Delhi Police was arrested on Tuesday while he was accepting a Rs 15,000 bribe. During the raid by the vigilance unit, ASI Rakesh Kumar threw the bribe money in the air - in a bid to destroy evidence.

A written complaint against Kumar alleged that he had been asking for money to avoid the implication of the complainant in a false case. The complainant told the officials of the vigilance unit that he had been called by Kumar to the Hauz Qazi police station at 12:30 pm - to give him the bribe money.

"The vigilance team laid a trap. They gave the complainant Rs 15,000 worth of bank notes treated with invisible powder. The complainant met Kumar outside the police station at the designated time and handed over the money. After receiving signal from the complainant, the vigilance team rushed to apprehend him," an official said, as quoted by The Times of India.

But Kumar got to know of the raid and in a bid to save himself, he threw the bribe money into the air. Some passersby collected the free cash before the situation was handled. Rs 10,000 was recovered from the spot, while Rs 5,000 was not found.

The TOI report said that a case has been registered against Kumar.
