Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) has secured the first position in India and 40th rank in Asia this year in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2024. The results were released on November 8 by QS, a British company.
Among these 11 indicators, Staff with PhD indicated the strongest one for IIT Bombay. In the 2024 edition of regional rankings, the Institute performed among the top 5 percent in the QS Asia University Rankings 2024. The Institute was ranked 40th last year too.
In the 16th edition of the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2024, 856 institutions are showcased from 25 countries and territories. India is now the most represented higher education system, with 148 featured universities (30 more than last year) followed by China with 133 and Japan with 96.
“This year’s ranking is the largest ever, featuring a record number of Asian universities. Not only does this reflect a flourishing and intensely competitive higher education ecosystem but facilitates evermore granular analysis of its institutions, allowing informed selection by students and targeted improvements by the region’s university leaders and policymakers,” QS Vice President Ben Sowter said.

Peking University comes in first place with 100 points overall – scoring highly in indicators such as ‘Academic reputation’ (100) and both ‘Employer reputation’ and ‘Staff with PhD’ (99.8).
As the University of Hong Kong makes a jump from being ranked fourth place in the previous year (now second), the university ranked greatly within the categories ‘International faculty’ (100), ‘Outbound exchange students’ (100) and ‘International students’ (99.9).
