Disney has finally unveiled the first trailer and poster for its much-awaited live-action remake of Moana, featuring Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana and Dwayne Johnson returning as the beloved trickster demigod Maui.
The reveal took place on November 17 and immediately sparked excitement among fans of the original film. Disney shared the first poster as well the trailer on Instagram.
The trailer features the stunning island of Motunui, its vibrant community, the shapeshifting demigod Maui, and even the chaotic yet endearing Kakamora tribe. It also introduces Lagaʻaia as the determined wayfinder Moana, who is seen singing the iconic line “I Am Moana.”
Running for one minute and nineteen seconds, the trailer highlights Moana performing the much-loved song “How Far I’ll Go,” originally featured in the animated movie. The live-action version is scheduled to release on July 10, 2026.
In this retelling of the Oscar-nominated classic, Moana (played by Lagaʻaia) responds to the Ocean’s call and steps beyond the reef of Motunui for the very first time. She then teams up with Maui (Johnson) for an inspiring adventure that aims to bring prosperity and hope back to her people.
The film is directed by Thomas Kail, known for his acclaimed work on Hamilton, and is produced by Dwayne Johnson, Beau Flynn, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Executive producers include Thomas Kail, Scott Sheldon, Charles Newirth, and Auliʻi Cravalho — the original voice of Moana from Moana and Moana 2.
