It was a historic night for Indian athletics at the 2025 Doha Diamond League as four Indian athletes competed in the prestigious meet — a first for the nation. Leading the charge was Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, who finally breached the elusive 90m mark in the men’s javelin throw, registering a massive 90.23m to finish second behind Germany’s Julien Weber, who threw 91.06m.

This milestone had long been the missing piece in Chopra’s illustrious career, with media and fans alike wondering when he would conquer the 90m barrier. That moment of triumph arrived in Doha, marking a new high in Indian track and field history.

Adding intrigue to Chopra’s success is his recent collaboration with javelin legend Jan Železný, widely regarded as the greatest in the sport’s modern era. Since February, the duo has been training together with the specific goal of refining Chopra’s technique and helping him reach this milestone.

Chopra had immense respect for his fellow athlete, Weber. “I feel happy for him,” Chopra said exclusively to RevSportz, speaking about the German thrower. “We both have been trying to get the 90m mark for a long time and finally, we both achieved it today.”

India’s other javelin thrower, Kishore Jena, also featured in the final, finishing 8th with a throw of 78.60m.

In track events, Parul Chaudhary delivered a standout performance in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, finishing 6th with a time of 9:13.39. Her run not only marked a new national record but also secured her qualification for the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo. Chaudhary, the reigning Asian Games gold medallist, continues to impress on the global stage.

Meanwhile, Gulveer Singh ran a season-best 12:59.77 in the men’s 5000m to finish 9th, showing significant progress and consistency as he broke the 13-minute barrier.

Overall, it was a landmark day for Indian athletics, with Chopra’s 90m breakthrough stealing the spotlight and the rest of the Indian contingent making notable strides in their respective events.
