Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Haryana section of the landmark Dwarka Expressway today on March 11, which will help improve traffic flow and ease congestion between Delhi and Gurugram on the National Highway-48.

This is among the 112 national highway projects being inaugurated across the country worth Rs 1 lakh crore.

Here's all you need to know about the Dwarka Expressway:

Traffic advisory: The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory, which urges commuters to avoid Dhulsiras Chowk, Sector 8-9 crossing, Carmel Chowk Sector-20, Janki Chowk near Sector-23 police station, and the Pochanpur flyover Sector-23 Chowk.

Other routes where traffic will be regulated are near the Transport Authority office, Sector-21 metro station and the Pacific Mall cut, Golf Course Road to Dhulsiras Chowk and Bamnoli, and Bharthal Chowk to Dhulsiras Chowk and Chhawla Road.

About the Expressway: The 19-km-long Haryana section of the eight-lane Dwarka Expressway has been built at an estimated cost of around Rs 4,100 crore and includes two packages of 10.2-km-long Delhi-Haryana Border to Basai Rail-over-Bridge (ROB) and 8.7-km-long Basai ROB to Kherki Daula.

Being one of its kind in India, the Dwarka Expressway will feature an elevated eight-lane access-controlled expressway. It will also provide direct connectivity to the IGI Airport in New Delhi and the Gurugram Bypass.

The Dwarka Expressway is being built in four phases, with segments stretching from Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur to Bijwasan (5.9km), Bijwasan ROB to the Delhi-Haryana border in Gurgaon (4.2km), the Delhi-Haryana border to Basai ROB (10.2km) in Haryana, and Basai to the Kherki Daula cloverleaf interchange (8.7km).

Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh announced on March 2 that PM Modi will inaugurate the expressway on March 11 and perform a road show that will begin in Delhi and end in Gurugram.
