After the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) floated the third global tender for the development of the first phase of the International Film City in Noida on September 30, several filmmakers and companies have evinced interest in the project, officials privy to the development said.
An YEIDA official told Moneycontrol on the condition of anonymity that actors Akshay Kumar and Kangana Ranaut have recently visited the project site in Sector 21, along the Yamuna Expressway, and representatives from the production houses of producer Boney Kapoor and actor Ajay Devgn have also shown interest in the proposed film city.
He said that film director and producer KC Bokadia and actor Rajpal Yadav are also in talks with the Authority.
“Akshay and Kangana visited the project site in Sector 21 around the first weekend of this month. It was a secret visit. They are yet to formally apply for the tendering process,” the official said.
There was no immediate response available from filmmakers and actors on the development. The copy will be updated after receiving a response.
YEIDA had, on September 30, floated a global tender for the third time, inviting investors and production houses to develop, operate and maintain the first phase of the project on a public-private partnership (PPP) model. This time, the tender has been floated for the development of the first phase only, which will be spread over 230 acres.
On the previous two occasions, the Authority had invited bids for the development of the entire project on 1,000 acres but failed to attract any bidder.
The official said that other than film-making companies associated with Bollywood actors, some international firms, such as Universal and Sony, have shown interest in developing the first phase of the project.
“Filmmakers, production houses, and other film-related firms, which have shown interest in the project, have been advised to participate in the global tender to develop, operate and maintain the first phase of the film city. Under the first phase, a 230-acre area will be developed out of a total of 1,000 acres. The remaining area will be taken up in other phases. The last date to apply for the bids is November 30 and a pre-bid meeting will be held on October 26,” the official said.

The official said that filmmakers and firms are willing to develop the first phase of the project through a consortium of companies. The Indian representatives of global companies like Sony and Universal are likely to meet top YEIDA officials later this month.
Technical bids are likely to be opened on December 5. Out of the proposed 230 acres of land, 155 acres will be dedicated for industrial use and the remaining 75 acres for commercial use. The estimated cost of the development for 230 acres is Rs 1,500 crore.
After receiving no interest from companies in the previous two global tenders, the Uttar Pradesh government decided to make modifications to the project and give relaxations to bidders. They include extending the concession period from 60 years to 90.
