Pakistani actor Danish Taimoor has sparked controversy after making a statement about polygamy during a television show featuring his wife, Ayeza Khan. In a widely circulated clip from his show Mehfil-e-Ramadan, Taimoor remarked, “Mujhe ijazat hai chaar shaadiyon ki… Main kar nahi raha, vo alag baat hai. No one can take it away from me.” (I am allowed to marry four times… I am not doing it, that’s a different matter. No one can take that right away from me.)
Taimoor’s comments have not been well received by a section of the audience, particularly among those who argue that polygamy is an outdated practice that does not align with modern views on marriage and relationships.

A viral backlash ensued, with several users expressing their disapproval. One user commented, “Eik shadi shuda aurat keh rahi Aiza deserves better, sthu. Bro clearly said he loves n respects his wife. Eik achi kasi khush family ko shaitan torne ka idea de reh, disgusting creatures.” (A married woman is saying Ayeza deserves better, shut up. He clearly said he loves and respects his wife. Why are people trying to ruin a happy family?)
Another user, reflecting on gender dynamics, remarked, “Men and their obsession with only this particular right to keep looking for other girls and portraying their loyalty as ehsaan.”
One particularly pointed response referred to legal distinctions between India and Pakistan: “Glad to the constitution of India that as a Hindu you can’t have more than one wife. It’s crazy how a woman co-exists with another woman while sharing the husband u this injustice to women only.” (sic)
Despite the backlash, Taimoor attempted to clarify his remarks by pointing at his wife, Ayeza Khan, and stating, “This is my love, my respect for her, that I want to spend my life with her right now.” However, this did little to pacify critics, as many viewed his statement as a veiled endorsement of polygamy.
Taimoor, who is a well-known figure in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, has starred in multiple television dramas and films.
