Hrithik Roshan seeks protection of his personality rights

Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan has joined the list of celebrities like Aishwarya Rai, Kumar Sanu and more to approach the  Delhi High Court seeking personality and publicity rights protections.

According to ANI reports, Hrithik has filed a lawsuit before the Delhi High Court to protect his name, image, likeness, voice, and other personal characteristics from unauthorised commercial use and misuse.

Justice Manmeet Pritam Arora will hear the case on Wednesday.

John Does (unnamed individuals) is one of the known and unknown parties named in the plea who allegedly exploited the actor's personality traits for profit without permission.

The actor has requested an injunction to stop this kind of abuse and to shield his identity from being used fraudulently online or in commercials.

A similar petition filed by singer Kumar Sanu, who claims that morphed videos and defamatory content using his name and likeness were going viral online, is also scheduled to be heard by Justice Arora.

The Court had previously ordered Google and Meta to explain why their grievance officers were unable to remove URLs that contained such "morphed videos" and "profane language."

Judicial scrutiny of the problem of online abuse and personality rights has increased lately.

The Delhi High Court recently highlighted the dangers of generative artificial intelligence (AI) while defending actor Nagarjuna's personality rights.

According to the Court, once deceptive or manipulated content is posted online, AI tools have the ability to duplicate and magnify it, which could harm public figures' reputations in the long run.

The Delhi HC issued a similar protection order last month prohibiting the unapproved online use of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's and Abhishek Bachchan's names, images, and voices.

On the work front, Hrithik Roshan was last seen in War 2, which failed to meet the hype. The film also starred Jr NTR and Kiara Advani.
