The Congress on March 8 announced the first list of 39 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, which are likely to be held in April-May this year.
The party's Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi is set to contest from Kerala's Wayanad again. Meanwhile, Congress general secretary K C Venugopal will contest from Alappuzha, former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel from Rajnandgaon, Jyotsna Mahant from Korba, Tamradhwaj Sahu from Mahasamund and Shashi Tharoor from Thiruvananthapuram.
Venugopal, during a press briefing, said that the first list of 39 candidates has 15 general category candidates while 24 are from the SC, ST, OBC and minority communities.
The first list was released a day after the Congress' Central Election Committee (CEC) held a meeting in the national capital, which was chaired by party president Mallikarjun Kharge.
"We are in election mode and on an aggressive path of campaigning with Rahul Gandhi undertaking the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra which is in Gujarat," Venugopal said.
